COUNCILOR EDWARDS TO CHAIR CITY COUNCIL HEARING ON REDEVELOPMENT OF BUNKER HILL HOUSING

COUNCILOR EDWARDS TO CHAIR CITY COUNCIL HEARING ON REDEVELOPMENT OF BUNKER HILL HOUSING

BOSTON (7 March 2018) - On Thursday March 15, 2017, at 6:00pm City Councilor Lydia Edwards, Chair of the Housing and Community Development Committee, will hold an City Council hearing in Charlestown on the redevelopment of the Bunker Hill Development. This hearing is in an effort to bring transparency, accountability and clarity to the people of Charlestown.

While the BHA has not made an official decision on the new development team for the housing development, Councilor Edwards still believes the hearing should take place sooner rather than later. “This hearing is a great way for the community to voice their questions, comments, and concerns to the developer, financiers, and the City of Boston. I see this as an opportunity to set the new planning and process off right with increased community participation and lay the framework and guidelines to which the community process will be executed.”

ALL members of the public are invited to participate in the meeting and provide testimony especially Charlestown residents. Along with hearing from Charlestown residents, Councilor Edwards has confirmations that representatives from Charlestown Residents Association, developers Corcoran Jennison and Leggat McCall, the Boston Housing Authority will attend. Councilor Edwards is still hopeful that the Boston Planning and Development Agency will be able to send a representative, although she is aware of their conflict. “I expect a great deal of people with different interests and perspective have a lot to say. I hope we are also as committed to hearing from each other as we are one community about to go through a massive amount of change. A good transparent process can actually help to bring us together.”

The hearing is slated for Thursday, March 15th at 6:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus, 545 Medford St, Charlestown, MA 02129. If you’d like to submit written testimony please e-mail michelle.goldberg@boston.gov or send to the Office Boston City Councilor Lydia Edwards, One City Hall Square, Suite 550, Boston, MA, 02201.
