Boston Herald AntiArab video at East Boston school draws ire from Lydia Edwards

Christopher Evans | The Boston Herald

A video of a woman entering the Excel Academy charter school in East Boston to complain about a school display celebrating Arab American Heritage month is lighting up Facebook and has drawn ire from City Councilor Lydia Edwards, who called the woman’s comments “racist” and said the video hurt kids and parents from the school...

...“I don’t need the woman being vilified,” she said. “I do think what she said was racist. I think walking into a school and just being disgusted that a group of people are being celebrated is wrong. We have a vibrant, growing, beautiful Arab American community in East Boston and throughout Boston, but especially East Boston. I would say that they’re one of our larger groups that’s growing there. I think diversity is beautiful and hate has no place in our neighborhood, especially over ethnic groups.”
