Councilors Edwards, Wu to hold East Boston Master Plan hearing on July 16th

Community invited to weigh in on future of neighborhood

City Councilors Lydia Edwards and Michelle Wu will hold a public hearing on planning for East Boston at 6pm on July 16th, in the Mario Umana Academy, 312 Border Street, East Boston. The hearing is intended to clarify process and timeline for community planning and zoning initiatives, solicit input from members of the public and identify top concerns of the community. Officials from the Boston Planning and Development Agency & colleagues in the Walsh administration will attend.

Councilor Edwards originally called for a hearing on May 9th, with the support of State Rep. Madaro and Senator Boncore, following repeated requests from the neighborhood to move forward on housing affordability, climate resiliency and transportation. The Boston Planning and Development Agency subsequently announced PLAN: East Boston and is in the early stages of designing the long-term planning process.

“Now is the time for residents of East Boston to shape the future of our neighborhood and model a truly community-led development process,” said Councilor Edwards. “I look forward to hearing from East Boston neighborhoods on priorities and strategies for building a vibrant, resilient, affordable community.”

A public notice for the hearing is now available online: The hearing will be recorded and subsequently broadcast on local television and published online to the City Council’s YouTube page.
